In the lead up to exam season students across the UK will be starting to revise or think about revising. Although many conscientious students will have good intentions and a well designed revision schedule, many will find themselves cramming the night before an exam. It's a method of studying we're all familiar with but unfortunately cognitive science backs a different method known as spacing. Spacing involves breaking down your revision into manageable chunks and working backwards from your deadline to space those chunks out over a longer period of time. This helps move knowledge from your working memory into your long-term memory, meaning you can more easily recall it when it comes to exam time!
If you're currently getting ready for exams, try identifying your weakest topics in a subject and giving yourself 30 minute slots to study those topics over a week or longer.
